Materials & Process

Stone, bronze, timber — by hand.

The materials Ian works in, and how a piece moves from idea to finished work.

Material

Cold-Cast Bronze

Cold-cast bronze gives the look and feel of aged bronze with detailed raised surfaces and heritage character. Ideal for sculpted relief, commemorative plaques, portraits and crests where presence matters.

Material

Etched Slate

Natural slate is durable, textured and permanent — ideally suited to inscription. Edges are kept honest and the surface carries lettering and imagery with depth and contrast.

Material

Timber

Warmth, depth and traditional craft presence. Timber grounds a piece, frames a memorial and brings tactility into the work.

Material

Mixed Media

Bronze, slate and timber combine to give layered, meaningful presentation. The right combination depends on the subject, the space and the story.

The Process

From first conversation to finished piece.

  1. 01

    Concept & Reference

Customer explains the idea, theme, inscription or reference material. Photographs, documents, family details and historic references are all welcome.

  2. 02

    Design & Layout

Ian shapes the piece around the material, proportions and intended display location. Layout, lettering and imagery are agreed before the work begins.

  3. 03

    Crafting & Finishing

Cold-cast bronze, etched slate or timber is worked by hand — textured, aged, sealed and finished to suit the piece and the setting.

  4. 04

    Final Presentation

The finished piece is reviewed, photographed and prepared for collection or delivery, with care taken in mounting and presentation.
